The 2026 general Election process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reached a major stage. Results from two constituencies in Bagh have now been announced.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured one seat each in Bagh.
Following these results, PML-N has increased its total to 25 seats. It has emerged as the largest parliamentary party in the AJK Legislative Assembly. PPP is currently the second-largest party with 12 seats.
PPP Wins LA-15 Central Bagh
In LA-15 Central Bagh, PPP candidate Sardar Zia Qamar secured victory. He defeated PML-N candidate Mushtaq Minhas during repolling in the constituency.
Repolling was conducted at nine polling stations in LA-15. The result gave PPP an important political victory in Bagh. The success of Sardar Zia Qamar also strengthened PPP’s representation in the assembly.
PML-N Secures LA-16 Eastern Bagh
PML-N candidate Sardar Mir Akbar Khan won the LA-16 Eastern Bagh constituency.
He received 20,793 votes, according to the announced results. PPP candidate Sardar Qamar Zaman secured 16,963 votes. Mir Akbar Khan won the contest by a margin of 3,830 votes.
The results followed repolling at 23 polling stations across the two Bagh constituencies. With the process completed, both major political parties added one seat to their respective totals.
PML-N Strengthens Position in AJK Assembly
The latest Election results have further strengthened PML-N’s position in the AJK Legislative Assembly. With 25 seats, the party currently holds a clear advantage in parliamentary strength. PPP follows with 12 seats.
PML-N performed strongly across different phases of the 2026 polls. PPP also secured several important constituencies during the electoral process.
The Bagh contests attracted political attention because of the region’s importance in AJK politics.
Seven By-Elections Still Pending
Despite the latest results, voting remains pending in seven constituencies in Rawalakot and Sudhanoti.
According to sources, by-elections will be held in these constituencies. Their results could further shape the parliamentary balance. The final composition of the assembly will become clearer after these remaining contests are completed.
The upcoming polls could also affect the strength of the government and opposition. For now, PML-N remains the largest party with 25 seats. PPP holds second place with 12 seats.
