PM Shehbaz Thanks Trump for Backing Makkah Defence Pact

US President Donald Trump has welcomed a new defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. He called the deal an important step toward stronger regional security.

Trump expressed his support for the Makkah Defence Pact in a post on Truth Social. He said he was pleased that the three countries had signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

The agreement was signed on August 7. It includes a major collective defence provision. Under the agreement, an armed attack on one member will be considered an attack on all three countries.

The clause has drawn comparisons with Article 5 of the NATO treaty. Article 5 provides for collective defence among NATO members.

However, the publicly available details of the agreement do not fully explain its military obligations. It also remains unclear what specific response each country would provide after an attack.

Trump described the agreement as a sign of growing regional cooperation. He said countries in the Middle East were developing stronger ways to protect themselves.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Trump’s remarks on the agreement. He said he deeply appreciated the US president’s support for the trilateral defence arrangement.

Shehbaz said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye would continue working together. He said the three countries would help protect their national security interests.

The prime minister also highlighted the broader regional importance of the agreement. He said the countries would contribute to stability and security across the region.

Shehbaz also praised Trump’s role in South Asian diplomacy. He described Trump’s leadership as courageous and decisive.

The prime minister said Trump’s efforts helped prevent a possible nuclear crisis in South Asia. He added that such efforts had helped save millions of lives.

Shehbaz stressed that lasting peace remains important for the region. He said peace would support economic growth and create better opportunities for future generations.

The Makkah Defence Pact marks a significant development in defence cooperation among three strategically important Muslim-majority countries.

Its collective defence commitment could increase the agreement’s geopolitical importance. The provision sends a strong message about cooperation between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The Makkah Defence Pact could also encourage closer coordination on regional security matters. However, its practical impact will depend on how the agreement is implemented.
