Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said Imran Khan will continue receiving medical treatment under the law and jail manual.
His remarks came as the government prepares a review petition concerning treatment at a private hospital.
Tarar spoke in Islamabad alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
He referred to the Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding the PTI founder’s medical treatment.
Tarar said every prisoner has a constitutional and legal right to appropriate healthcare facilities.
He maintained that Imran Khan had received medical facilities in the past and would continue receiving them.
According to Tarar, there is no ambiguity regarding the healthcare facilities available to the former prime minister.
He said the government is providing medical treatment in accordance with the jail manual.
Tarar also stressed that health matters should remain separate from political disagreements.
He said the PML-N had not used the health of political opponents for political purposes.
However, Tarar accused PTI leaders of previously making political statements concerning the health of PML-N leaders.
He recalled previous remarks allegedly made about food and medical matters involving opposition leaders.
The information minister said the government would continue fulfilling its legal responsibilities regarding Khan’s healthcare.
Meanwhile, the government plans to file a review petition against part of the Supreme Court’s decision.
Tarar said the review would particularly concern the issue of treatment at a private hospital.
He noted that the law minister had already confirmed plans to seek a review.
According to Tarar, the issue is legal and should be addressed through the appropriate judicial process.
Talal Chaudhry also supported the government’s position during the press conference.
He said meetings with prisoners must take place according to the jail manual and applicable court directions.
Chaudhry also criticised PTI’s response to the court decision.
He argued that threats, road blockades and pressure would not provide a lawful route for securing meetings.
Chaudhry also discussed previous political disputes surrounding the health of PML-N leaders.
He claimed that PML-N leaders had not responded similarly to reports concerning Imran Khan’s health.
The minister also referred to past controversies involving medical reports and treatment of political leaders.
He argued that illness should not be treated as a political weakness or used for political purposes.
Chaudhry also rejected attempts to connect the Supreme Court’s latest decision with an NRO.
He questioned why the ruling was being described in political terms instead of being treated as a judicial decision.
The government maintains that Khan will continue receiving medical facilities according to existing laws and prison regulations.
At the same time, it intends to seek judicial review regarding treatment at a private hospital.
