Solar consumers in Pakistan have received an important update regarding pending net metering connections. The development could help applicants who have waited several months for progress.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued new directions to the Power Information Technology Company (PITC). It has asked the company to review pending net metering cases.
The directive covers consumers who have already completed the required procedures. However, their connections have not yet been completed.
NEPRA Orders Review of Pending Applications
NEPRA has directed PITC to examine pending cases across electricity distribution companies, known as DISCOs. The review will also cover applications linked with K-Electric.
PITC will review the available records and update the status of these applications. The process will include cases pending before February 9, 2026.
The regulator wants PITC to identify consumers who qualify under the applicable rules. It also wants clearer information about each pending application.
The decision could bring relief to many Solar consumers. Some applicants have already completed their paperwork and other required formalities.
However, they have continued waiting for their net metering connections.
New Prosumer Regulations
The development follows the introduction of new prosumer regulations by NEPRA. These regulations have created questions about the future of net metering arrangements in Pakistan.
Many households and businesses have invested in Solar systems to reduce their electricity costs. Net metering arrangements allow eligible users to connect their systems with the electricity grid.
NEPRA’s records also show recent approvals and concurrences for prosumer connections. This indicates that applications for grid-connected power systems continue to move through the regulatory process.
Consumers Can File Complaints Over Delays
NEPRA also provides a complaint mechanism for consumers facing net metering delays. Consumers and installers can raise complaints when eligible connections face unnecessary delays.
This complaint mechanism covers certain connections of up to 25 kilowatts.
Consumers who have installed Solar systems can now check the status of their pending applications. This particularly applies to applicants who completed the required net metering procedures.
The latest directive may help authorities identify eligible pending cases and address unnecessary delays.
However, the order does not mean every pending applicant will receive an immediate connection. NEPRA has first directed PITC to verify and update the relevant records.
After completing the review, PITC will determine the status of individual cases. Relevant authorities can then take further action under the applicable regulations.

The review could provide greater clarity for consumers waiting for their net metering applications to move forward.
