Sindh Provincial Ombudsman Mohammad Sohail Rajput has ordered an urgent investigation. The move follows the diagnosis of 16 more children with HIV/AIDS.
The children were diagnosed at Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital. Their families raised concerns about treatment, medicines and hospital administration.
Rajput chaired a hearing attended by senior officials and hospital administrators. Parents of affected children also participated in the proceedings.
Families alleged that essential medicines were not always available. They also claimed hospital officials did not provide enough support.
Some families reportedly faced delays in receiving treatment expense reimbursements. The concerns raised during the hearing focused on medical and administrative issues.
Rajput criticised the hospital’s performance and ordered immediate corrective measures. He called for improvements in healthcare and administrative services.
The ombudsman directed authorities to consider deputing doctors from Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital. The doctors could serve at the hospital for six months.
He also ordered uninterrupted supplies of medicines and nutritional supplements. Other essential items required by the affected children must also remain available.
Authorities were further instructed to improve hospital management. Qualified medical and administrative professionals should be appointed where necessary.
Rajput ordered a comprehensive audit of the hospital’s affairs. Officials must identify a reputable audit firm within two weeks.
The audit will examine the hospital’s financial and administrative matters. It is expected to help identify problems in the existing system.
The ombudsman also addressed concerns affecting the families of patients. He directed authorities to help workers who lost their jobs while caring for children.
Officials were asked to take steps for the reinstatement of affected workers. The measure aims to support families facing financial difficulties.
Rajput also ordered compensation for families who lost children. He called for comprehensive rehabilitation services for children living with HIV/AIDS.
Psychologists will also be appointed to support affected children and their families. Counselling and psychosocial services are part of the proposed measures.
The hearing also highlighted the need for greater public awareness. Rajput ordered an awareness campaign covering HIV/AIDS diagnosis and treatment.
The campaign will use print, electronic and social media platforms. It will also focus on prevention and timely medical care.
The latest developments have increased attention on the HIV Outbreak at the hospital. Authorities have been directed to address the concerns raised by affected families.
