Punjab government has decided to establish permanent markets to provide affordable essential goods across the province.
Under the new plan, temporary Sahulat Bazaars will gradually be replaced with permanent markets.
The initiative aims to improve public access to essential commodities at subsidized and reasonable prices. The decision was taken during a Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority Board of Directors meeting.
Authority Chairperson Muhammad Afzal Khokhar chaired the meeting. Senior officials and other authority members also attended.
Punjab Expands Sahulat Bazaar Networ
Officials reviewed several matters related to the authority’s operations during the meeting.
A major focus was expanding the network of markets across Punjab. Officials briefed participants about plans to establish new Sahulat Bazaars in different areas.
The meeting also discussed ways to improve access to affordable essential goods for more citizens. Under the expansion plan, Punjab will establish 150 permanent markets before Ramadan.
These markets will be developed at the tehsil level across the province. The move will create a more permanent system instead of relying mainly on temporary markets.
Each Tehsil to Get Two Market Options
According to the plan, each tehsil will have a Sahulat Bazaar. Every tehsil will also have a Sahulat-in-the-Go market to further improve accessibility.
The government expects the expanded network to benefit a larger number of consumers. It will also help residents access essential commodities closer to their local areas.
Permanent markets could provide a more consistent system for offering reasonably priced goods throughout the year. The initiative will particularly focus on improving availability and accessibility for consumers.
Markets Planned Before Ramadan
The government plans to establish all 150 permanent Sahulat Bazaars before Ramadan.
The timeline is intended to increase access to affordable essentials during a period of higher household demand. Ramadan often brings increased demand for groceries and other everyday food items.
The expanded market network is expected to provide consumers with additional purchasing options. During the meeting, the authority also reviewed other measures aimed at providing relief to citizens.
Officials discussed ways to strengthen the management and reach of the market network. The Punjab government expects the expansion to make affordable essential commodities accessible to more people.
