Power outages have intensified across Lahore and several other areas of Punjab amid a growing electricity shortage.
Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has reportedly crossed 4,000 megawatts as power generation struggles to meet demand.
Residents in several parts of Lahore have reported frequent Load-Shedding during the ongoing electricity supply crisis. In some areas, electricity is reportedly being suspended for around one hour after every hour.
The repeated outages have raised concerns among consumers as the power supply gap continues to widen.
LESCO Faces Over 1,200MW Shortfall
Sources said the Lahore Electric Supply Company is experiencing a significant electricity shortage. LESCO’s power shortfall has reportedly exceeded 1,200MW.
Meanwhile, the nationwide difference between electricity demand and available supply has crossed 4,000MW. The shortage has resulted in longer and more frequent outages across Punjab.
Lahore is among the areas facing significant disruption due to reduced electricity availability.
Solar Power Helps During Daytime
The electricity shortage remains comparatively lower during daylight hours because of solar power generation. Sources said solar energy is currently contributing around 7,000MW each day.
This additional generation helps reduce pressure on the electricity system during daylight hours. However, the supply situation becomes more challenging when solar generation declines.
This has contributed to increased Load-Shedding during periods when conventional generation cannot meet electricity demand.
Power Plants Reportedly Operating Below Capacity
Sources within the National Transmission and Despatch Company said generation has fallen at several power plants. Some electricity plants are reportedly operating below their maximum generation capacity.
Authorities are seeking to conserve gas and furnace oil amid existing fuel supply constraints.
The availability of regasified liquefied natural gas could also affect electricity generation. Sources warned that the situation could worsen if an expected RLNG vessel fails to reach the port.
Any delay could create additional pressure on gas supplies used by electricity generation facilities.
Outages Increase Across Punjab
Reduced generation and the widening supply-demand gap have increased electricity outages across Punjab.
Lahore has been particularly affected, with residents reporting repeated interruptions throughout the day. The current Load-Shedding situation will depend on electricity generation, fuel availability and overall power demand.
Any further decline in generation could place additional pressure on the electricity system.
