Torrential rain has inundated several low-lying areas across the city. Water levels in Nullah Lai have also risen significantly, increasing concerns about possible flooding in nearby communities.
Authorities are closely monitoring vulnerable locations and have urged residents to follow safety instructions.
Pakistan Army Joins Rescue Operations
The Pakistan Army has joined efforts to assist the civil administration during the ongoing rain emergency. Rescue and relief operations are focused on areas affected by flooding and rising water levels.
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir said the Army remains available to support the civil administration.
Officials are monitoring Nullah Lai and other areas considered vulnerable to flooding. Emergency teams are also prepared to respond if conditions worsen.
Nullah Lai Water Level Rises
Water levels in Nullah Lai reached 27 feet at Kattarian following intense rainfall. At Gawalmandi, the water level was recorded at 21 feet.
The rising water prompted authorities to sound warning sirens in nearby areas.
Residents living close to the drain have also been alerted about the developing situation. Authorities are keeping a close watch on water levels as rain continues to affect Rawalpindi.
WASA Declares Rain Emergency
The Water and Sanitation Agency has declared a rain emergency across Rawalpindi. WASA teams and heavy machinery have been deployed to several vulnerable locations.
These include Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road and Sadiqabad.
Teams are working to remove accumulated rainwater and respond to flooding in affected locations.
Rawalpindi Records Heavy Rainfall
Several areas of Rawalpindi recorded extremely heavy rainfall during the latest weather spell.
Shamsabad received 195mm of rainfall, while New Kattarian recorded 180mm. Golra received around 157mm of rain.
The intense downpour has caused waterlogging and increased pressure on the city’s drainage system.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the severe weather. People have also been encouraged to remain indoors where possible.
Educational Institutions Closed
The Rawalpindi administration has announced a holiday for public and private educational institutions.
The closure was announced as a precaution due to flooding and severe weather conditions. Officials continue to monitor the situation across the city.
The Pakistan Army, WASA and civil administration remain engaged in emergency response efforts.
