The government has announced registration details for its targeted petrol subsidy scheme. The programme aims to provide fuel relief to eligible citizens.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the scheme. He directed authorities to ensure a smooth registration process.
Under the programme, motorcycle and rickshaw owners can qualify for subsidised petrol. Vehicles with engines up to 800cc are also eligible.
The scheme will begin in Islamabad during the night of September 14 and 15. Relief will expand nationwide from the night of September 16 and 17.
The programme will also cover Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities have been directed to provide maximum support during registration.
The prime minister instructed Islamabad officials to remain available in the field. They will guide citizens and help resolve registration-related issues.
Public representatives and volunteers will also assist eligible people. Their role will include helping citizens complete registration and access the subsidy.
The government has also ordered a wider awareness campaign. Information will be shared through television, social media and other platforms.
Officials will explain registration requirements and the process for receiving fuel relief. The campaign aims to ensure that eligible citizens understand the procedure.
How to register for the petrol subsidy
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima explained the registration process. Eligible citizens can complete the process from their homes.
Applicants must send their 13-digit CNIC number to 9771. They must also provide their vehicle registration number.
The first letter of the vehicle’s registration province is also required. Applicants must provide their vehicle registration date as well.
The SIM used for registration must be registered in the applicant’s own name. It must also be linked with their CNIC.
The vehicle registration date will provide an additional verification check. This measure aims to prevent fraudulent or stolen-vehicle registrations.
Applicants will receive a confirmation message after successful registration. The government is also providing a free SMS service for the registration process.
After registration, beneficiaries must send “TOK” to 9771. This will generate a fuel relief token for petrol purchases.
The token can then be presented at an eligible petrol station. Beneficiaries can receive subsidised fuel according to their monthly limits.
Petrol subsidy limits
Motorcycle and three-wheeler users can receive up to 20 litres monthly. Small cars with engines up to 800cc can receive 30 litres.
Motorcycle and three-wheeler users will receive five-litre fuel tokens. Each transaction will provide a subsidy worth Rs500.
Eligible small-car users will receive 10-litre fuel tokens. Each transaction will provide a subsidy of Rs1,000.
Motorcycle and three-wheeler users can receive the subsidy once weekly. Eligible car users can access the benefit once every 10 days.
The government has also set vehicle age limits. Motorcycles up to 15 years old will qualify for the programme.
Cars up to 20 years old can also qualify under the scheme. Applicants must ensure their vehicle information is accurate.
Shaza Fatima urged eligible citizens to complete registration through 9771. She warned that incorrect information could lead to unsuccessful registration.
Incorrect SIM ownership details can prevent registration. Inaccurate vehicle information can also cause verification problems.
The free SMS service is designed to make registration easier for eligible citizens. The government has encouraged applicants to use the official process.
Authorities are expected to continue public awareness efforts before the scheme begins. Citizens can use the designated SMS number to complete the required steps.
The government says the scheme is aimed at supporting people affected by rising fuel costs. It will specifically target groups that depend heavily on vehicles for daily travel and work.
