KARACHI: Police are investigating the deaths of a woman and her three children in Karachi’s Surjani Town. Investigators are searching for the victims’ missing mobile phone. Police believe the device could provide important clues.
The woman was identified as Mahwish. Her children were five-year-old Hasnain, six-year-old Kashmirah and an 18-month-old girl. The infant was taken to hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries.
According to police sources, officers searched the house after the incident. However, Mahwish’s mobile phone was not found. Investigators are now trying to obtain her call record data. They believe the records could help establish important details about the case.
Police said Mahwish’s husband had called her before reaching home. He reportedly heard the phone ringing during the call. The phone was later found switched off, according to investigators.
Investigators have also examined possible entry and exit points. Police said the main gate appeared to be the only accessible route. They found no signs of forced entry through doors or windows.
Police also said entering the house through the roof appeared difficult. No evidence has so far indicated another route into the house. The murder weapon has also not been recovered.
An eight-member investigation team has been formed to examine the deaths. DIG West Irfan Baloch constituted the team. SSP West Tariq Mastoi is leading the investigation.
The team includes the SP Investigation West and a DSP. The SHO of Surjani Town is also part of the team. Police are questioning relevant people as investigators gather evidence.
An initial medical examination of the victims has been completed. Police said the victims suffered multiple serious injuries to their heads. The injuries caused extensive damage to their brain tissues, according to the police surgeon.
The police surgeon also confirmed that the critically injured infant died during treatment. The child was receiving care at Jinnah Hospital before her death.
Samples collected from the victims have been sent for chemical analysis. Police said the tests will determine whether the victims were given any intoxicating substance. The results could provide further information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Mahwish’s husband, Danish, is also being questioned by police. According to his account, he had left home to drop his employer somewhere.
He said he returned later and found that nobody opened the door. He reportedly called out to his wife several times. However, there was no response.

According to the FIR, Mahwish and Danish had been married for around 10 to 12 years. The investigation in Surjani Town remains ongoing. Police are working to recover the missing phone and other evidence.
