The Lahore High Court has dismissed Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan’s petition against NCCIA proceedings. The case involved notices issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition. She directed the cricketer to respond to the agency’s show-cause notice.
The court also instructed Rizwan to appear before the NCCIA. It warned that concealing facts could lead to a substantial fine.
Rizwan’s lawyer, Umar Qazi, challenged the agency’s notices during the hearing. He argued that the notices had been issued without proper justification.
The lawyer asked the high court to declare the NCCIA proceedings unlawful. He also raised objections about the agency’s actions against the cricketer.
According to the petition, Rizwan had previously responded through his lawyer. However, the NCCIA rejected that response and issued another notice.
The agency later provided questionnaires to Rizwan and fellow cricketer Imam-ul-Haq. Both players were asked to submit their responses by September 15.
Imam-ul-Haq submitted his answers to the agency. Mohammad Rizwan reportedly sent his response through courier.
In his response, Rizwan questioned the reasons behind his summons. He also asked the agency why his mobile phone had not been returned.
The cricketer further sought clarification about the alleged disciplinary violation mentioned against him. His response raised several questions regarding the ongoing inquiry.
Both players had appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore. Their appearance followed Pakistan’s tour of England.
The cricketers had requested additional time to answer the agency’s questions. The inquiry also involved their mobile phones.
The NCCIA investigation concerns alleged dressing-room leaks during the England series. The Pakistan Cricket Board had filed a complaint over the matter.
The agency is examining issues connected to the alleged leaks. The mobile phones of the players are also part of the investigation.
The Lahore High Court’s decision means the agency’s proceedings will continue. Mohammad Rizwan has been directed to follow the NCCIA process.
The court’s remarks also placed emphasis on providing complete information. It warned that withholding relevant facts could result in financial penalties.
The dismissal came after arguments from Rizwan’s legal team. His lawyer maintained that the agency’s notices lacked proper grounds.
The court, however, directed the petitioner toward the available legal process. Rizwan must respond to the show-cause notice and appear before the agency.
The case remains connected to the broader inquiry into alleged information leaks. The NCCIA will consider the responses submitted by the players.
The agency’s investigation does not by itself establish any wrongdoing by the cricketers. Further findings will depend on the evidence and inquiry process.
