Lahore authorities are installing QR Panic Buttons on public transport vehicles across the city.

The initiative is being carried out on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to Lahore Chief Traffic Officer, the system has already been installed on 80,000 vehicles.

These include rickshaws, ride-hailing cabs and other public transport vehicles.

Traffic teams are conducting the installation work at 45 locations across Lahore. The QR Panic Buttons have been made mandatory for public transport vehicles.

Officials say the move is aimed at improving passenger safety and strengthening transport regulation.

Women and other passengers will be able to scan the QR code during an emergency. The system can be used in cases of harassment or other safety-related situations.

Authorities say the feature is designed to help passengers seek immediate assistance.

Traffic teams have also been deployed in every traffic sector of the city. These teams are helping drivers and vehicle owners complete the installation process.

A total of 12 dedicated teams have been assigned specifically for rickshaws.

Officials are also expanding licensing facilities for rickshaw drivers. The Lahore CTO said four new licensing centres have been established.

The new centres were opened following requests from rickshaw unions.

Authorities say the project is part of a wider effort to modernise traffic management. Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said officials are promoting smart traffic systems across Lahore.

He added that modern security features are also being introduced in public transport. The QR Panic Buttons are expected to become an important part of this safety system.

Officials say the feature will also help bring more transport services under legal regulation.

Ride-hailing companies are also being asked to meet the required safety standards. Authorities have decided to take action against online cab services that fail to comply.

Such companies may face enforcement measures if they do not adopt the required security features. The government says the initiative is focused on safer and more accountable urban transport.

Public transport users, especially women, are expected to benefit from faster access to assistance.

The installation drive is continuing across Lahore. Authorities are encouraging vehicle owners to complete the process at designated locations.
