ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has criticised the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over terrorism and governance. He made the remarks during a press conference in Islamabad on September 28. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also attended the press conference.

Atta Tarar alleged that the KP government had not taken enough practical steps against terrorism. He also repeated his claim that PTI leadership in the province was acting as a “B-team” of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. These remarks were presented as allegations by the federal minister. The minister also questioned the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He referred to the sacrifices made by political leaders and workers during the fight against terrorism. Atta Tarar also raised concerns about non-customs-paid vehicles operating in KP. He alleged that many vehicles lacked proper registration or number plates. He claimed that some such vehicles were being used in terrorist activities. He said the provincial government should bring these vehicles into the legal framework.

The federal minister also criticised the KP government over healthcare services. He said PTI had governed the province for more than 12 years. He questioned why residents still travel to other provinces for medical treatment. He also claimed that the Interior Ministry had offered modern vehicles to KP police. According to him, the provincial government declined the offer.

Tarar said the federal government remained committed to eliminating terrorism. He alleged that the KP leadership had left police officers vulnerable to militant attacks. He also questioned how counterterrorism funds received through the National Finance Commission were being used. He called for details about the spending of those resources.

The minister praised Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti for his approach to counterterrorism. He said Bugti had used available resources to address security challenges. Tarar contrasted this with his criticism of the KP government.

He also alleged that KP funds meant for police and counterterrorism were being used for political protests. Tarar claimed the provincial government wanted to turn the police into a political wing of PTI. He further questioned proposed changes involving the Provincial Public Service Commission.

Atta Tarar said political differences should not affect efforts against terrorism. The federal government has continued to call for stronger coordination with provincial authorities.
