A Legal notice has been served on Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar over an alleged statement concerning the LLB degree of Supreme Court advocate Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon.
The notice was issued by Kalam Law Firm on September 29, 2026. It states that claims about Bhoon’s academic qualifications and legal enrollment are allegedly without factual basis. The notice also describes the allegations as defamatory.
According to the notice, Bhoon received his LLB degree from the University of the Punjab in March 1989. His roll number was 828. The document states that his academic credentials were later verified during the Pakistan Bar Council election process.
The notice cites Punjab Bar Council records regarding Bhoon’s professional enrollment. It says he became an advocate of the lower courts on September 19, 1989. He was later enrolled as an advocate of the High Court on February 22, 1992.
Bhoon was enrolled as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on July 19, 2003. The notice says he has practised law for more than three decades. His legal practice has covered criminal, constitutional, civil, corporate and commercial matters.
It also mentions his work in banking and other areas of law. Bhoon has held several senior positions within Pakistan’s legal community. These include membership and leadership roles in the Punjab Bar Council and Pakistan Bar Council.
According to the notice, he also served as president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association. He later served as president of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.
The document further states that Bhoon served as a judge of the Lahore High Court from February 9, 2008, to July 31, 2009. He was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association for 2021-22.
The notice also mentions his nomination to Pakistan’s National Group at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. It says he was appointed to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan for the 2025-27 term.
Bhoon was also elected for a fifth term as a Pakistan Bar Council member for 2026-30. The notice says his academic credentials were verified by the University of Punjab’s Controller of Examinations on January 21, 2026.
According to the document, questions about his LLB degree were raised during a public interaction outside the Supreme Court on September 23, 2026. An alleged statement calling the degree fake was later circulated on social media.
The Legal notice states that no authentic documentary evidence was presented to support the allegation. It asks Safdar to provide the original university record or other official documentation supporting his claim.
The notice also seeks records from relevant authorities, if available. These may include decisions by the university, Higher Education Commission or Bar Council.
It maintains that the validity of an academic degree cannot be established through an allegation alone. Relevant institutional records and decisions would be required to determine the matter.
The notice describes the alleged statement as harmful to Bhoon’s reputation and professional standing. It seeks an explanation, withdrawal of the statement and appropriate redress.
