Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has indicated possible fuel relief for consumers if international oil prices decline.

Speaking in Lahore, the Petroleum Minister said any reduction in global prices would quickly benefit Pakistani consumers.

However, he ruled out providing unconditional relief while international oil prices remain high. Malik said the government wants to avoid repeating policies that could create additional economic pressure.

He referred to the subsidy approach used in 2022 and warned against financially unsustainable measures.

Fuel Prices Could Drop if Global Rates Fall

The minister said domestic fuel prices have increased according to movements in international markets.

He claimed the government had not imposed additional increases beyond the impact of higher global oil prices. According to Malik, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remains committed to providing maximum possible relief to citizens.

However, future reductions will largely depend on international oil market trends. The Petroleum Minister said lower global prices would be passed on to consumers without unnecessary delay.

This could provide relief to households already facing pressure from inflation and high energy costs.

Government Prepares for Winter Gas Challenge

Malik also discussed Pakistan’s gas situation ahead of the winter season. He described the coming winter as a major challenge for the country’s energy sector.

A gas supply plan has already been presented to the prime minister and federal cabinet.

According to Malik, important decisions regarding the plan are expected within two days. He also highlighted Pakistan’s dependence on gas supplies from Qatar.

The minister warned that any disruption to Qatari supplies could create difficulties for Pakistani consumers.

Higher winter demand could further increase pressure on the country’s available gas resources.

Petroleum Minister to Visit Saudi Arabia

Malik also announced plans to travel to Riyadh next week. He said he would carry a message of solidarity for Saudi Arabia during the visit.

The minister described the regional situation as extremely sensitive.

He said Pakistan condemned attacks against Saudi Arabia and supported the kingdom during the current situation. Malik also acknowledged Saudi cooperation in maintaining oil supplies to Pakistan during difficult circumstances.

He said Pakistan would express appreciation for this support during his upcoming visit.

Malik Calls for National Unity

The Petroleum Minister also appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister to demonstrate national responsibility.

He said Pakistan was facing serious regional and security challenges.

Malik urged political leaders to place broader national interests above political disagreements.

He also referred to the sacrifices of Pakistanis who lost their lives while defending the country’s borders. For consumers, international oil prices will remain an important factor in determining possible fuel relief.

A decline could reduce pressure at fuel stations.
