Pakistani students planning higher education in Japan can apply for the Honjo International Scholarship 2027.
The programme supports international students pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees at eligible graduate schools in Japan.
Students from Pakistan and other non-Japanese nationalities are eligible to apply. The Scholarship is available across all research fields. Applications must be submitted online by October 31, 2026.
Around 10 scholarships are expected to be available under the programme.
Honjo Scholarship 2027 Eligibility
The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation accepts applications directly from international students.
Applicants do not need to go through university pre-selection before submitting their applications. Candidates must be non-Japanese citizens studying or planning to study at a Japanese graduate school.
The programme is available for both Master’s and doctoral students.
Applicants planning to begin graduate studies in 2027 can apply. Students already enrolled at eligible institutions may also qualify.
There is no restriction to a specific academic or research field.
Monthly Scholarship Amount
Successful students will receive a monthly allowance based on their degree duration.
Students enrolled in one or two-year programmes can receive ¥230,000 per month.
Those studying for three years can receive ¥210,000 each month.
Students enrolled in four or five-year programmes can receive ¥180,000 monthly. The Foundation provides the Scholarship for the minimum period required to complete the selected degree.
Financial assistance for participation in international conferences may also be available under the Foundation’s rules.
What Expenses Are Not Covered?
The Honjo programme does not cover every expense associated with studying in Japan.
University tuition fees are not included in the financial support. The programme also does not cover initial travel expenses or airfare to Japan.
Applicants should therefore arrange separate funding for tuition and initial travel costs.
Japanese Language Requirement
Candidates must have basic conversational Japanese skills.
This requirement is important because the scholarship interview is conducted in Japanese.
Applicants should be able to introduce themselves and explain their research using basic Japanese. The interview does not primarily focus on testing advanced Japanese language skills.
The Foundation also does not list IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 as general eligibility requirements.
A fixed GPA requirement of 3.0 is also not listed as a general condition in the provided information.
