LAHORE – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert across the province. Several districts are expected to receive rainfall from October 6 to 7. According to the PDMA, rain is likely in parts of northern and central Punjab during the forecast period. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and follow safety instructions.
Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock and Chakwal. Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad may also receive rainfall. Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal are also included in the weather alert. Other areas, including Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh, may also see rain.
Faisalabad has also been included in the forecast. The weather conditions could affect several districts across the province during the two-day period. PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa has warned of possible landslides in hilly areas. Murree and Galiyat are considered particularly vulnerable due to their terrain.
He directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain alert. District administrations have also been asked to prepare for possible weather-related emergencies. The PDMA said district administrations were alerted following directions from the Punjab chief minister. Several government departments have also been placed on standby to respond to any emergency.
The departments include health, irrigation, communications and works. Local government and livestock departments have also been directed to remain prepared during the expected rainfall. Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions during the rainy period. Residents should avoid damaged or unsafe buildings, particularly during heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The PDMA DG specifically warned people against staying inside damaged or mud-built houses. Such structures can become more dangerous during heavy rainfall and strong weather conditions. Citizens have also been advised to stay in safe places during thunderstorms. People should avoid unnecessary travel if weather conditions become severe in their areas.
Residents have been urged to take extra care during lightning activity. Unnecessary outdoor movement should be avoided when thunderstorms are taking place.
Parents have also been advised to keep children away from stagnant water. Children should also stay away from electricity poles, exposed wires and other potentially dangerous areas. The PDMA has asked citizens to follow official instructions throughout the weather alert. Residents should also stay updated about changing conditions in their respective areas.
