A major fire at a factory in Karachi’s SITE area remained uncontrolled five hours after it broke out. Firefighters continued working to extinguish the flames as the blaze spread across multiple floors. According to officials, the fire started on the factory’s second floor before spreading to the third floor. The presence of large quantities of plastic granules, thread, and cardboard has made firefighting efforts more difficult.

Two fire tenders were initially dispatched after authorities received reports of the incident. However, the fire intensified, prompting officials to deploy additional firefighting resources. The operation later involved 11 fire tenders, two snorkels, and two water bowsers. These vehicles continued efforts to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.

Factory workers were evacuated immediately after the fire broke out. Officials said the staff were moved to a safe location as emergency teams responded to the incident. The large amount of combustible material inside the building has increased the challenges faced by firefighters. The fire’s spread from the second floor to the third floor also raised concerns about containing the blaze.

Karachi Fire Prompts Emergency at Water Hydrants

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) declared an emergency at the NIPA and Sakhi Hassan hydrants following a request from the fire brigade. A spokesperson said the corporation took the decision to ensure an immediate water supply for firefighting operations. The move was aimed at supporting rescue teams working to bring the blaze under control.

On the instructions of KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddique, an emergency was also declared at the Crush Plant hydrant. The spokesperson confirmed that water tankers had been dispatched to the site. These supplies were intended to support firefighters as they continued efforts to extinguish the flames.

The hydrant cell’s in-charge remained in contact with fire brigade and rescue officials throughout the operation. Meanwhile, the CEO’s focal person for hydrants was personally supervising the arrangements. The corporation said it was providing full cooperation to emergency teams. The additional water supply was expected to assist firefighters in their ongoing efforts.

Previous Fire Reported at the Same Location

Fire brigade officials also reported that a fire had occurred at the same location a few days earlier. They said the factory’s third floor had been converted into a warehouse. The earlier incident has drawn attention to the building’s use and the materials stored inside. However, officials have not provided details establishing any connection between the two fires.

The latest blaze continued to challenge emergency crews because of the combustible materials inside the factory. Firefighters remained focused on controlling the flames and preventing further spread. The available information did not confirm the cause of the fire. Officials also had not provided an estimate of the financial losses or the full extent of the damage.
