In a surprising turn of events, New Delhi and several areas in Nepal experienced the impact of a robust 6.2-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, causing significant tremors throughout the region. The initial evaluations conducted by India’s National Center for Seismology indicated that the earthquake’s depth was approximately 5 kilometers. The epicenter of this seismic activity was identified within Nepal.
However, an alternative source, the Solar System Geometry Survey, reported a slightly lower magnitude, measuring it at 5.7, with a depth of 7 kilometers.

Reports from the Hindustan Times conveyed that the earthquake endured for more than 40 seconds, leading to panic among residents who swiftly evacuated their homes. The tremors were not limited to Nepal alone; they extended to the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, affecting areas like Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha, as well as parts of Uttarakhand.
As a precautionary measure, the Delhi police issued a warning, urging citizens to refrain from using elevators and evacuate buildings to ensure their safety.
Adding to the seismic activity in the region, NDTV reported that Nepal experienced two earthquakes within a span of 25 minutes, measuring 4.6 and 6.2 in magnitude, respectively. The initial quake struck Nepal at 2:25 pm, followed by the second one at 2:50 pm.
Curiously, just one day before this seismic event, a Dutch research organization had predicted a potent earthquake along the Chaman fault line in Balochistan, Pakistan. This prediction, made by the Solar System Geometry Survey (SSGS) from the Netherlands, was met with skepticism from the scientific, seismological, and geological communities, who questioned its credibility. Ongoing investigations and monitoring are in progress to assess the situation and any potential implications.
