Online Applications for Arms Licenses Now Open to Punjab Residents

The interim administration in Punjab has extended the opportunity for individuals and organizations to submit applications for firearms licenses as per the Punjab Arms Rules of 2023.

In the most densely populated region of the country, residents now have the option to apply for firearms licenses through online applications. These applications cater to eligible Pakistanis seeking licenses for personal, institutional, security, and business purposes, encompassing non-prohibited bore weapons.

However, it’s important to note that the fees for firearms licenses have undergone a significant increase, with the government raising them from Rs20,000 to Rs50,000, resulting in a substantial surge of approximately 150 percent.

The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department had previously granted approval for this substantial fee hike in firearms licenses.

According to the new regulations, firearms licenses may be granted to individuals for personal protection or sporting purposes, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria. These criteria include the applicant being a permanent resident of Pakistan, possessing a valid CNIC, holding Punjab domicile, being over 20 years of age, and being listed as an active taxpayer with a clean criminal record.

Furthermore, the government has stipulated that firearms licenses will not be issued to individuals with a fugitive status or those convicted by a court of law. Moreover, applicants should not have any affiliation with proscribed organizations or engage in anti-state activities.
