Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, who was arrested over his support for protests triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini in custody, has been released on bail after spending over a year in prison.
Salehi had received a six-year sentence for “corruption on earth,” one of Iran’s most serious offenses, in July. However, the Supreme Court found flaws in the initial sentence upon appeal and ordered his release on bail.

The accusations against Salehi included spreading false information, propaganda against the state, inciting violence, and allegedly forming illegal groups to disrupt security in collaboration with a foreign government hostile to Iran.
Amini’s death had sparked widespread protests in 2022, leading to hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests.
