NEPAL: Mountaineer Naila Kiani successfully scaled Nepal’s Annapurna I on Monday, becoming the first Pakistani woman to do so.
Kiani accomplished this feat earlier this morning, according to a tweet from Everest Today.
Kiani became the first Pakistani woman to summit three peaks above 8,000 metres in August of last year.
Despite extreme weather conditions between the C2 and C3 points, she reached the summit of Gasherbrum-1, the world’s 11th highest mountain, at 7:45 a.m. today.

In July 2022, the Dubai-based banker will summit K2, the world’s second-highest peak. Kiani had previously climbed Gasherbrum-II, the world’s 13th-highest mountain, in 2021.
She is a daughter, a wife, and a mother with no mountaineering experience. Naila became one of the first two women to climb K2 on her first attempt, becoming one of the world’s most dangerous peaks.
In 2022, Pakistan will also commemorate Samina Baig, the country’s first woman to summit K2. The 31-year-old had climbed the 8,611-metre (28,251-foot) peak with a seven-member local team and was followed by Kiani hours later.
