Naseeruddin Shah Falls Victim to Scam by Pakistani Booksellers

Naseeruddin Shah

Renowned Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah has taken to social media to address the piracy of one of his memoirs in Pakistan. In a Facebook post on Sunday, Shah revealed that his 2014 book “And Then One Day” has been illegally translated into Urdu and is being sold in Pakistan without his authorization.

Expressing his disapproval, Shah stated, “Evidently, an unauthorized Urdu translation of my book of memoirs called And Then One Day has been published in Pakistan and is on sale there. I wish to state that I have nothing to do with this translation and intend to take legal action to stop its sale. I would like to request friends there to refrain from buying this book.”

“And Then One Day” offers readers a compelling journey through Shah’s life, from his early years to his rise to fame in the entertainment industry. With his trademark wit and honesty, Shah shares formative experiences that shaped his identity as both an actor and an individual. From his upbringing in a Muslim family in Barabanki to his education at the esteemed National School of Drama, Shah’s memoir provides insights into the diverse influences that molded him.

According to a review by The Express Tribune, Shah’s memoir is a must-read for fans, filmmakers, theater producers, and aspiring actors alike. Described as neither preachy nor academic, the book offers an unflinching look into the life of one of today’s greatest actors, making it a valuable literary treasure.

The review further notes that experiencing a Naseeruddin Shah performance feels like a bridge between generations, with the older Shah embracing the idea more than his younger self might have.
