Indian actor and filmmaker Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken advocacy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and her portrayal of strong-willed women in unconventional films, has announced her entry into electoral politics. Ranaut, 37, has been named as the Lok Sabha candidate for her local Himachal Pradesh constituency on behalf of the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Reports across Indian media had hinted at Ranaut’s interest in launching a career in politics for some time, and her candidacy announcement confirms these speculations. Taking to social media to express her gratitude and support for the BJP, Ranaut thanked the party’s leadership and pledged her unwavering commitment to the cause.

In an Instagram post, Ranaut stated, “My beloved Bharat and Bharatiya Janata’s own party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has always had my unconditional support. Today, the national leadership of BJP has announced me as their Lok Sabha candidate from my birthplace Himachal Pradesh, Mandi (constituency). I abide by the high command’s decision on contesting the Lok Sabha polls. I feel honoured and elated to officially join the party. I look forward to being a worthy karyakarta and a reliable public servant. Thanks.”
Ranaut’s staunch support for Prime Minister Modi has been evident in her past statements, where she lauded him as a role model and symbol of democratic victory. With her political entry, Ranaut aims to translate her admiration for Modi and her nationalist sentiments into active participation in governance and public service.
Having made her film debut in 2006 with the thriller Gangster, Ranaut gained recognition for her versatile performances in roles ranging from a mutant superhero in Krrish 3 (2013) to an abandoned bride in the comedy-drama Queen (2014), which earned her critical acclaim and accolades.
Despite facing commercial setbacks in her film career after 2015, Ranaut’s entry into politics marks a new chapter in her journey. With her own production company established in 2020 and a reputation for controversial right-wing views, Ranaut’s political trajectory reflects her evolving stance and aspirations in the Indian public sphere.
