IHC Issues Notice to ECP Regarding Election Documents

In a recent development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken notice of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for its failure to issue certified forms and other pertinent documents related to the results of the 2024 general elections. The court has requested a response from the ECP by Wednesday, which is today.

The applications brought before the IHC were presented by Salman Akram Raja and Shoaib Shaheen, both of whom contested as members of the National Assembly in the aforementioned general elections. While Shaheen appeared in person, Raja was represented by his legal counsel.

During the proceedings, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC emphasized that obtaining certified forms is a legal entitlement for the petitioners. He clarified that the order issued in response to Shaheen’s request would apply equally to Raja’s plea. The Chief Justice asserted that the ECP is obligated to issue these forms, whether it occurs today or within ten days.

Consequently, the court has issued a notice to the Election Commission, directing it to furnish a reply by the end of the day, and has adjourned the hearing of the case.
