Pakistani classical vocalist Mai Dhai recently graced the renowned Times Square billboard in New York City.
Times Square, a globally recognized hub known for its bustling atmosphere and digital displays of celebrities and brands, showcased Mai Dhai as the latest Pakistani celebrity to be featured there.
Mai Dhai gained prominence for her distinctive voice and popular songs such as “Kaid Ao Ni.” Hailing from the Manganhar Muslim community in Pakistan’s Tharparkar district, known for its rich musical heritage shared with India’s Rajasthan state, she has carved a niche in the music industry.

Spotify Pakistan celebrated Mai Dhai’s appearance on their official Instagram, noting, “A voice like that of the cuckoo reaches Times Square directly,” alongside an image of her on the billboard. They encouraged followers to listen to her on the #EQUALPAKISTAN playlist, part of Spotify’s initiative promoting female artists in Pakistan.
Mai Dhai garnered widespread acclaim through performances at various Pakistani music festivals. Her breakthrough came in 2016 when she featured in Coke Studio’s season 8, performing “Aankhaṛli Phaṛookai” and “Kadi Ao Ni” alongside Karam Abbas Khan and Atif Aslam.
In October 2023, Pakistani musician Talal Qureshi was also featured on a Spotify billboard at Times Square, showcasing his album “Turbo,” blending traditional Pakistani music with contemporary electronic elements.
Previously, Times Square has highlighted Hasan Raheem and Grammy-winning artist Arooj Aftab, underscoring its role in spotlighting diverse musical talents globally.
