On Monday, Australian Test cricketer Usman Khawaja expressed his thoughts on Babar Azam’s potential to continue leading the Pakistan cricket team after their disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
The team’s failure to reach the Super 8 stage has led to discussions about Azamβs leadership.

However, Khawaja supports Azam, the current white-ball cricket captain, to continue if he feels capable.
βItβs Babar Azamβs decision to captain, if he can, he should,β Khawaja said at an event in Melbourne.
Khawaja acknowledged Pakistanβs immense talent but highlighted that instability harms the teamβs performance.
βPakistan cricket team has a lot of talent. Expectations are high in Pakistan, the game is tough and only one team can win,β he observed.
He added, βFrom the outside, it seems there are constant changes in Pakistan cricket. The selection committee, staff, and players keep changing. Stability is very important. Without it, players struggle to perform. Pakistan cricket team never sees stability.β
Pakistan lost to the USA and India in their initial matches, despite appearing to have control.
These losses diminished Pakistanβs chances of reaching the Super 8, depending on the USA losing to Ireland.
However, the match between the USA and Ireland was abandoned due to rain in Florida, with both teams receiving a point, ending Pakistanβs World Cup campaign.
Pakistan will play a two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh in August, marking their next cricketing engagement.
