Independent members have begun submitting their affidavits of allegiance to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following a recent Supreme Court ruling on reserved seats. Notably, PTI leader Mian Azhar and MPAs Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan and Syed Ijaz Hussain Bhatti have pledged their loyalty to Imran Khan’s party.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court delivered a landmark verdict declaring PTI eligible for reserved seats, reversing earlier decisions made by the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan that had denied such allocations to the Sunni Ittehad Council. This ruling marks a significant shift in the political landscape.

In an 8-5 majority decision, the Supreme Court struck down the ECP’s allocation of reserved seats to the ruling coalition, labeling it “unconstitutional.” Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who articulated the order supported by eight judges, confirmed that PTI, as a political party, is entitled to its reserved seats.
