At least five people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a mosque in Muscat, Oman, police confirmed on Tuesday.
“The Royal Oman Police responded to a shooting incident near a mosque in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area,” stated local police.

The rare attack occurred during a Muharram gathering with over 700 attendees, mostly Pakistanis. The identities of the victims are yet to be identified.
Videos on social media showed people fleeing near Imam Ali Mosque, with gunshots audible and its minaret visible.
This week, the faithful will observe Ashura worldwide, commemorating the 7th-century martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
