The Punjab Govt, led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has announced that citizens will now receive traffic challans with evidence and substantial fines for violations, thanks to artificial intelligence.
The introduction of AI and advanced electronic traffic enforcement has begun, using modern cameras to monitor smog-emitting vehicles.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed transport authorities to target vehicles producing excessive smoke, issuing fines through Punjab Safe City Cameras equipped with the latest technology in Lahore.
AI technology will now measure smoke emissions from vehicles, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws. The Lahore Traffic Police have already issued numerous fines for excessive emissions from various types of vehicles.
In Lahore, a series of photos and videos of smoke-emitting vehicles is being compiled, with images included in electronic tickets. Senior Minister Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb, stated that the use of modern technology and cameras aims to ensure both environmental protection and effective traffic rule enforcement.
