Azam is considered one of the world’s best modern-day batters, with impressive stats: 3,898 runs from 52 Test matches, 5,729 runs from 117 ODIs, and 4,145 runs from 123 T20Is, alongside 31 international centuries. In an interview with former South African batter AB de Villiers, Azam discussed his goals, achievements, and how he handles pressure, revealing his practice of learning from top players.

Azam explained that engaging with international players helps him understand their routines and self-belief, which significantly aids his game. Despite his focus on improvement, Azam faced criticism after Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, leading to calls for his resignation as captain and even his removal from the T20 squad.
