Islamabad Court Grants Bail To PTI Activist Arooba Komal

Arooba Komal, a social media activist affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been granted bail by the Islamabad District and Sessions Court. Judicial Magistrate Shabbir Bhatti set her bail at Rs50,000.

Komal had been arrested and placed on judicial remand on Sunday by Duty Judge Mureed Abbas. The case, which falls under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), also involves PTI spokesman Raoof Hasan and other party members.

Komal was not mentioned in the FIR, and her legal representation was handled by Advocate Sardar Masroof. Masroof highlighted that two other women linked to the case had already been granted bail and argued that Komal’s name was not included in the FIR.

In a related development, the District and Sessions Courts in Islamabad granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) a two-day physical remand for Raoof Hasan and other suspects. Judge Abbas approved a two-day remand for Hasan despite the FIA’s request for eight days.

Arooba Komal was placed under judicial remand. The FIA prosecutor stressed the importance of addressing freedom of expression concerns, while Hasan admitted to his connections with those arrested but denied responsibility for social media activities. The prosecutor argued that the remand was essential for gathering information about Hasan’s connections.
