Defence Minister Claims Ex-ISI chief Faiz Hameed Incited May 9 Violence

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has made startling claims about former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, who is currently in military custody. Asif alleged that Faiz, after retiring in late 2022, engaged in political activities that contributed to unrest.

In a TV interview, Asif suggested that Faiz might have been involved in the May 9 incidents, noting that if the reports are true, Faiz likely did not act alone. According to Asif, Faiz may have provided logistical support and targeted key areas for maximum impact during these events.

Asif also highlighted Faiz’s close personal connection with former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, pointing out their familial ties which may have further influenced their relationship.

On Monday, the military’s media wing, ISPR, confirmed that disciplinary measures have been taken against Faiz Hameed under the Pakistan Army Act. A Field General Court Martial has commenced, and Faiz is now in military custody.
