Squid Game actor O Yeong-su, who has been accused of sexual harassment, is appealing the severity of his sentence from the initial trial.
At an appellate hearing held at the Suwon District Court, O’s defense argued that the sentence is excessively harsh given his circumstances. They emphasized that O, a first-time offender, has already faced significant professional and public fallout, including removal from several film projects.

O, known internationally as the “Gganbu Grandfather” from Netflix’s Squid Game and the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, was indicted in November 2022. The charges are based on allegations of inappropriate behavior in 2017, including allegedly embracing and kissing a female junior colleague from his theater troupe.
O has denied the allegations, and a lower court sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. Both O and the prosecution have appealed the verdict, with the next hearing scheduled for October 29.
