Azam Khan Struck on Neck by Bouncer, Dismissed in CPL 2024

Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan, playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), narrowly avoided a serious injury when he was struck on the neck by a bouncer from Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ pacer Shamar Springer during their match on August 30. The incident occurred in the 12th over when Azam attempted to pull a short delivery, but the ball hit his shoulder and then his neck, ultimately knocking him onto the stumps, dismissing him for a run-a-ball nine.

Despite the setback, Romario Shepherd’s 16-ball 32 cameo and Dwaine Pretorius’ last-over performance against Mohammad Amir led the Warriors to a three-wicket victory. Azam Khan, who has faced criticism for his fitness and weight, had a decent run with Islamabad United during their PSL 2024 title win but struggled to make a significant impact for Pakistan in subsequent international matches. After Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, Azam was not considered for further selection.
