Sindh’s Gaj River Floods, Submerging Roads in 200 Villages

Flooding in Sindh’s Gaj River has inundated roads and pathways in over 200 villages across the Kachho region, including Wahi Pandhi and Gorakh Hill Station. This flooding has also affected villages like Jam Babbar and Tamo Chandio, causing the collapse of 30 mud houses. The situation worsened with additional flooding at four points along the Nai Gaj River, severing connections between Wahi Pandhi, Gorakh Hill Station, and the rest of Kachho from Dadu Johi.

Residents have criticized the Dadu district administration and Sindh government for inadequate response to the severe flooding. They have called for urgent repairs to the Wahi Pandhi-Johi road to facilitate transportation and ensure the delivery of essential resources. Meanwhile, Mansoor Shahani, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister, has visited the affected areas and directed efforts to provide boats for transportation and restore road connectivity.

Heavy rainfall has also led to increased water levels in Manchhar Lake, which reached 116.5 feet RL. This rise in water has caused overflow into the Indus River, affecting an additional 300 villages along the river in Dadu, Jamshoro, and other districts. Sindh Home and Law Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar has visited the flood-affected areas, ensuring all necessary measures are taken to protect communities and manage the flood situation.

In addition, recent heavy rain in Balochistan has caused significant water influx into Qubo Saeed Lake, leading to overflow and subsequent flooding in Dadu district. The Sukkur Barrage control room has reported high water levels at various barrages, with ongoing efforts to manage the situation and prevent infrastructure damage. Sindh PDMA Director General Syed Salman Shah has warned of continued heavy rain and thunderstorms, urging authorities to implement effective mitigation measures.
