Female Polio Worker Abducted and Assaulted, Faces Further Trauma as Husband Cites 'Honor' and Expels Her from Home

A female polio worker from Jacobabad, Sindh, who was abducted and sexually assaulted, faces additional trauma after being thrown out of her home by her husband, who cited “honor” as his reason.

Following the assault, her husband not only expelled her but also took custody of their two daughters. However, the court has since ruled in her favor, returning the children to her care.

In a heartbreaking video statement, the survivor expressed deep fear for her life, claiming her husband, brothers-in-law, and other relatives posed a threat to her safety.

She appealed to authorities for the arrest of the remaining suspects involved in the abduction and assault, and requested protection due to her ongoing fears.

Despite the court placing her under her father’s care, she continues to feel unsafe due to the looming threat from her in-laws.

The incident has highlighted the urgent need for stronger protection and support for survivors of gender-based violence. Authorities are being urged to act swiftly to ensure her safety and bring the culprits to justice.
