National Resilience Day PM and President Honor Victims of the 2005 Earthquake

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari commemorated the tragic anniversary of the 2005 earthquake, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced disaster preparedness and climate resilience in Pakistan.

During the observance of National Resilience Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the importance of multi-sectoral government initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster readiness, which include ensuring infrastructure safety, alleviating poverty, and enhancing agricultural practices. He reflected on the devastating impact of the 2005 earthquake, stating, β€œOur heartfelt prayers go to all those who endured the loss of lives and properties.” He also pointed out that the floods of 2022 served as a stark reminder of Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change.

Expressing gratitude for the international community’s assistance during the floods, the Prime Minister acknowledged the spirit of philanthropy and generosity among the Pakistani people, which was evident during both the earthquake and the floods. He emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, β€œBy the grace of Allah, we have always, and continue to, fought through all such calamities with the help of our brave Pakistani brethren and sisters.”
