FIA Targets Journalists and TikTokers for Spreading False News About Lahore College Case

FIA

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained three individuals for disseminating false information about a rape case involving a student from a private girls’ college in Lahore. This misinformation triggered widespread protests across Punjab. Among those arrested are Raja Ahsan Naveed and Faisal Jutt, while the FIA is actively searching for 38 additional journalists and TikTokers accused of spreading the rumors on social media.

The situation escalated after the principal of Punjab College for Women lodged a formal complaint with the FIA, highlighting the chaos and violence that erupted as a result of the fake news. The principal claimed that the misinformation led to attacks on the college, causing significant distress and damage. The FIA has faced challenges in apprehending the accused, as many have gone into hiding.

Additionally, one student who was involved in sharing the false story has publicly apologized, admitting to acting without proper research. The government has emphasized its commitment to preventing such incidents in the future and is implementing measures to curb the spread of misinformation online.
