IHC Grants Bail to Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana Gifts Case, Citing Justice Isa Precedent

The Islamabad High Court has granted bail to Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case, referencing the precedent established in the Justice Qazi Faiz Isa case. Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb drew comparisons between the two cases, noting that a husband was held accountable for his wife’s actions in the Isa case.

Bushra Bibi’s bail application was approved, with her release contingent upon the deposit of a one million rupee surety. During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb questioned the logic of implicating the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party if Bushra Bibi did not submit the gifts in question, echoing sentiments from the Isa case.

FIA prosecutor Umeer Majeed argued that gifts received by state officials must be declared and remain state property unless legally purchased.

Justice Aurangzeb pointed out that internationally, gifts received by leaders are typically retained following established rules and emphasized the need for accurate valuation of such gifts through proper auctions.

He also mentioned his observations of gifts displayed in a museum in Azerbaijan alongside images of past leaders. The court’s ruling provides Bushra Bibi with temporary relief.
