In a concerning health emergency, Sindh has documented over 226,000 dog bite cases this year, as per official reports. The surge in stray dog numbers has exacerbated the situation, resulting in 12 deaths attributed to rabies and infections from these bites.

The highest incidence occurred between January and March, with more than 27,000 cases reported each month.

Although there was a slight decrease during the summer, cases surged again in September, surpassing 24,000 monthly. On average, nearly 120 dog bite incidents are recorded daily across the province.

Health experts emphasize the importance of immediate medical attention following a dog bite, recommending that wounds be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water for at least 15 minutes, followed by the application of antiseptic and consultation with a doctor.

Urgent treatment is particularly vital for bites from stray dogs, as rabies vaccination may be necessary. Public demand is increasing for the Sindh government to tackle the stray dog issue and improve access to treatment and vaccinations to mitigate this health threat.
