Qatar has agreed to expel Hamas leadership from Doha following requests from the United States. This decision comes after months of US pressure on Qatar to distance itself from Hamas, especially after the group rejected multiple proposals for a ceasefire and hostage releases during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The US considers Hamas a terrorist organization and views its presence in the Qatari capital as unacceptable, particularly after the group killed Americans and continued holding American hostages.
Qatar, which has played a key role in ceasefire negotiations, informed Hamas of the expulsion roughly 10 days ago. However, the timeline for the expulsion and the destination of Hamas leaders remain unclear, with Turkey being mentioned as a potential option. Despite this, Hamas officials have denied being told to leave the country, and no official deadline has been disclosed.
