Taurid Meteor Shower to Light Up UK Skies Tonight and Tomorrow

Taurid Meteor

Stargazers across the UK are in for a treat as the Taurid meteor shower reaches its peak over the next two nights, offering a chance to witness bright meteors streaking across the sky. Known for their slow speed of 65,000 mph, the Taurids are visible at a rate of around five meteors per hour, with their brightness making them stand out.

Active from October to December, this year’s Taurid display promises particularly intense bursts, as Earth passes through the trail of dust and ice left by Comet Encke. The debris burns up in Earth’s atmosphere, creating the glowing “crumbs” visible to observers.

Sky conditions are expected to be generally clear across the UK, although some regions may encounter patches of cloud. The best time to observe the meteor shower is around midnight, with experts advising viewers to head to locations away from city lights and allow their eyes to adjust to the dark.
