One Pakistani Dead, 47 Rescued in Greece Boat Tragedy: FO

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed on Sunday that one Pakistani citizen was among those who died in a boat capsizing incident off Greece’s southern island of Gavdos. The MoFA also stated that the exact number of deceased or missing Pakistani nationals remains unconfirmed.

So far, 39 men, mostly from Pakistan, have been rescued by cargo vessels. These individuals were transferred to the island of Crete, but the search continues for more missing persons. The embassy in Greece has activated its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) to assist the rescued nationals and offer support to the families of the missing.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the tragedy and pledged severe punishment for human traffickers responsible for the incident. He called human trafficking a “heinous crime” and ordered Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take immediate action, including a nationwide crackdown on the trafficking networks.

Families of the victims and those with missing relatives are encouraged to contact the Pakistani Embassy in Greece for assistance.
