PTA Confirms No Plans to Block VPNs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has assured that it has neither blocked virtual private networks (VPNs) nor intends to do so, despite having the capability.

Speaking at the launch of PTA’s Annual Report, Chairman Hafizur Rehman emphasized, “We could block VPNs, but we won’t. No VPNs have been blocked to date.”

The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns about VPN registration deadlines. Meanwhile, the telecom sector achieved record revenues of Rs955 billion in 2023-24, with 196 million subscribers, including 142.3 million broadband users.
