Heavy Fog Causes Motorway Closures

Dense fog engulfed parts of Punjab, leading authorities to shut down several sections of major motorways to ensure the safety of travelers. The Motorway Police spokesperson, Syed Imran Ahmed, reported that visibility concerns forced the closure of key routes, including the M2 motorway from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabu and the M3 from Samundri to Darkhana. The M4 motorway was also closed between Shorkot and Gojra, according to Express News.

To mitigate risks, Ahmed advised motorists to limit travel to daylight hours, especially between 10 am and 6 pm, and to use fog lights. Authorities stressed that these measures aim to prevent accidents typically caused by winter fog in Punjab.

Islamabad authorities have declared school holidays from December 21 to January 5, 2025, for both public and private schools. Other provinces, including Punjab, have also issued their vacation plans, with holidays beginning on December 23.

As cold weather sets in, with snowfall affecting northern areas, schools in colder regions will remain closed until February 28, 2025, while those in warmer areas will observe a shorter break from January 1 to January 10.
