Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is chairing a critical meeting of the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP) to review its implementation and set new goals for national security and law enforcement. The meeting, taking place in Islamabad, brings together key federal ministers, provincial leaders, and senior military and intelligence officials, including Army Chief General Asim Munir.
The session aims to assess the progress of NAP, which was originally devised to combat terrorism and extremism in Pakistan. With the new year underway, the government is expected to outline fresh strategies to tackle evolving security challenges. Sources report that the committee will discuss the reactivation of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a nationwide campaign against terrorism and extremism.

Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, approved during a previous Apex Committee meeting, is designed to intensify efforts across political, military, and diplomatic fronts to eliminate terrorism. This operation also aims to address socio-economic concerns and close legal loopholes to ensure tougher punishments for offenders.
The forum also focused on strengthening the security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, with new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued to enhance their protection. The meeting highlights the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability through coordinated action across federal and provincial lines.
