North Korea has confirmed the successful test of an intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile, claiming the weapon is designed to address growing security threats. The test was overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Gen. Jang Chang Ha, head of the country’s Missile Administration, as reported by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to KCNA, the missile launch showcased North Korea’s ability to develop advanced weapon systems, particularly hypersonic missiles, as part of its response to perceived threats from hostile forces. The missile is said to possess the capability to “reliably contain rivals in the Pacific region,” signaling a major technological advancement for North Korea’s military.

The missile was reportedly launched from a suburb of Pyongyang, and the test comes at a time of heightened regional tensions. This launch also occurs amid South Korea’s political unrest following a period of martial law that has disrupted state affairs.
