WhatsApp to Add Music Feature to Status Updates

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is rolling out a music feature for status updates, allowing users to enhance their posts with songs. Currently in beta for Android (version 2.25.2.5), the feature lets users select tracks to accompany photos or videos, similar to Instagram’s music-sharing option.

Users can tap a new music icon in the status section to search for songs, artists, or trending tracks. For photo-based statuses, a 15-second music clip can be added, while video statuses will sync the song’s duration with the video.

This update is part of WhatsApp’s collaboration with Meta and Universal Music Group, giving users access to an extensive music catalog. Viewers can also tap the song displayed in a status to visit the artist’s Instagram profile.

Following beta testing on Android and iOS, the feature will soon be available to all users. It builds on WhatsApp’s recent updates, including new camera effects, sticker packs, and reaction options to enhance messaging experiences.
