Wildlife Department Cracks Down on Illegal Bird Sellers in Lahore

Lahore’s Wildlife officials have ramped up efforts against illegal bird sellers, led by Deputy Director of Wildlife, Dr. Ghulam Rasool Awan. In a recent operation within the city limits, two more bird sellers were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests in the past 24 hours to four. Hundreds of native birds, including sparrows, robins, and wagtails, were rescued from their possession.

The arrested individuals were engaged in hunting and selling these harmless birds, contributing to the endangerment of local species. The Wildlife Department has urged the public to refrain from purchasing birds from illegal sellers to protect these innocent creatures. Citizens are encouraged to report illegal bird sellers by sharing their location via WhatsApp on the department’s dedicated number, 03324108449, to support the preservation of local wildlife.

In a separate case, YouTuber Rajab Butt has been sentenced for keeping a lion cub in violation of wildlife laws. The arrest followed a raid last month by the Punjab Wildlife Department and local police at Rajab’s residence in Lahore. The court has ordered Butt to perform community service under the supervision of a probation officer for one year.

As part of his sentence, Rajab will create monthly vlogs on animal rights, which must be approved by the probation officer. These vlogs will focus on raising awareness about animal protection, with materials provided by the Wildlife Department. Failure to comply with the court’s directives could result in further legal action.
